Different Types of Barstools to Consider

Whether you're in the process of building a home bar, trying to refurbish your kitchen counter space, or just need some really tall seats to reach a certain surface in your home or apartment, you'll eventually need some barstools that fit with the needs of that space.  Selecting the perfect barstool design isn't always easy, but if you take into consideration some of the tips we offer below in this article, it may be easier for you to find seating that matches both your needs and your personal taste.  That way, you don't invest a lot of money into seats you may regret having purchased down the road.

For the Home Bar

If you're trying to recreate a bar atmosphere in a part of your home by building a home bar, you'll want barstools that capture that authenticity.  Go with barstools that are fairly basic and streamlined, but which are also comfortable and durable.  The ability for the seats to swivel is also a plus.  As far as materials go, wood seating and perhaps some seats with metallic features are best.  Just try to avoid anything too bright, too modern, and outfitted with too many features, unless you want your guests to lose the illusion of being at a bar in your home.

For the Kitchen

For those homeowners who are just looking for a set of barstools for a high countertop or island in their kitchen, the stools you choose should fit in with the main design scheme of your kitchen space.  Try brighter, lighter colors, and if you choose wood seating, make sure the wood color doesn't clash with the wood on other features in your kitchen, such as cabinet doors.  Smaller barstools may be necessary if your countertop or island space is compact, but for a kitchen stool, something with a wider seat and a cushion would probably be preferred.

For an Unusual Space

If you just happen to have some unusual empty surface that you're converting into a usable space, and want seats that fit with it, you can unleash your creative ambitions.  Whether you want dark wood bar seats that sit really higher, or lower height seats that swivel 360 degrees and come outfitted with an array of features is up to you.  Just make sure the stools fit the space, so avoid stool bases that may be too wide or which have parts that strut out and may not work in the unusual space where you're attempting to fit them.
