Mighty Fitz

edmund.JPGEdmund Fitzgerald from Great Lakes Brewing Company is, in my book, more of a Stout than a porter. Either way it's simply a great ale with a very pronounced roasted malt character. I am normally not a fan of roasted malt since many brews offer little more. This is not the case with the Mighty Fitz. It offers a very balanced palate with all the bitter sweet chocolate tones that you would expect in a stout or porter. For me this is pretty much an old standby in the world of beer. If there were another prohibition and we could only let twenty ales survive, it would probably be in that batch.

Someday I hope to visit the remains of it's namesake ship at the Great Lakes shipwreck museum at Whitefish Point.
